Slip-on flange with neck, English name is Slip-on, referred to as SO flange.
Definition and function:
Slip-on flange with neck is a flange that is connected to equipment or pipelines by inserting steel pipes, pipe fittings, etc. into the flange and then connecting them through fillet welds. Its function is to achieve a stable connection between pipelines, pipe fittings or equipment and ensure the sealing of the connection.
Structural features
Neck design: It has a short neck part. This design improves the strength of the flange and improves its bearing capacity, making it suitable for pipelines with higher pressures.
Various sealing forms: The sealing surface can be a raised face (RF), a concave face (FM), a convex face (M), a tenon face (T), a groove face (G) or a full plane (FF) to meet different sealing requirements.
Scope of application and materials
Scope of application: The diameter range is generally DN10~DN600, suitable for PN series PN2.5~PN40 and Class series Class150~Class1500 pipeline systems. It is particularly suitable for steel pipeline connections with a nominal pressure not exceeding 2.5MPa.
Material selection: Common flange materials include carbon steel (such as 20# steel, Q235), stainless steel (such as 304, 316, 304L, 316L, etc.) The selection of these materials depends on the working pressure, temperature and medium characteristics of the pipeline system.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages:
High strength: Due to the neck design, the flange has high strength and can withstand greater pressure.
Good sealing: A variety of sealing surface forms are available to ensure good sealing performance.
Wide range of application: Suitable for pipeline systems of different diameters and pressure levels.
Easy to install: On-site installation is more convenient, and the process of beating and rubbing the weld can be omitted.
Disadvantages:
Relatively high cost: Compared with plate flat welding flanges, the manufacturing process of neck flat welding flanges is more complicated, so the cost is also higher.
Easy to bump during transportation: Due to its shape characteristics, special attention should be paid to protection during transportation to avoid bumping and damage.
Large welding workload: Compared with butt welding flanges, the welding workload is large and the consumption of welding rods is high.
Insufficient durability: In high temperature and high pressure environments, as well as frequent bending and temperature fluctuations, it may show lack of durability.
Application and precautions
Application: Neck-welded flanges are widely used in pipeline systems in the petroleum, chemical, natural gas, water conservancy, and electric power industries, especially in the transportation of flammable, explosive, corrosive and toxic media.
Precautions: When installing and using neck-welded flanges, it is necessary to ensure that the flange is accurately aligned with the pipeline or equipment, the welding quality is reliable, the sealing surface is clean and undamaged, and the operation is strictly in accordance with relevant standards and specifications.
